Brian P. Levack is John Green Regents Professor of History at the University of Texas at Austin. A former Guggenheim Fellow, his other writings on witchcraft include Articles on Witchcraft, Magic, and Demonology (1992), The Witch-Hunt in Early Modern Europe (1995), and Witchcraft and Magic in Europe: The Eighteenth and Nineteenth Centuries (1999). It weighs 10kg, yet nothing useful inside.

If you're a medical student, DON'T BUY THIS BOOK !!
I was so unlucky to get this book recommended for my pathophysiology studies, but clearly this book is for nurses or the average taxi-driver who want an easy introduction to the topic. There are a few lines about everything, so you won't understand anything and won't remember anything. This despite it's the bulkiest book I have! I can't even have it in my bookshelf, so now I use it as a stand for my bedroom alarm clock!
Going from studying a good physiology book to reading pathophysiology like this is a waste of time. Pathophysiology can't be explained by a few lines of text and reviewing clinical symptoms! For medical students used to study things in-depth this book would be a step back.
If I could sell it I would, but the shipping costs would double the prize of the book, and I would have to lie better then a Kirby-salesman to convince the buyer.
My advice: Stay away from this one. (Even if you're a nurse student.)

Forget it, get the Robbins book.

This was the required textbook for my undergrad patho class. I agree with previous reviewers in regard to the lack of detail and organization. It is a book written mostly by RNs for nursing students and is not very well suited for anyone else.
There really is no reason anyone should buy this book. Clearly the Robbins book is the leader in the field of clinical pathophys. Medical and other students with more than a passing interest should head immediately toward that text. If Robbins is to expensive/intimidating, there must be a more concise and better organized book than this one.
Also, this book is just too damn big. It's unnecessary.

Worth the price?

Update: This review is for the first edition. I have not yet consulted the second edition, and will not until it becomes available in a library near me. I will never pay so much for any book in this series ever again (prices right now are hovering around $120, print or digital). For the last few years I have been working on my own bibliography and correspondence index, so when I do get the chance to consult the second edition, I should be in a position to comment on its value relative to the first edition. I can guarantee, however, that it's not worth what they are charging for it, unless one has money to throw away. When my own bibliography is more or less complete, I will make it available online. Since I made the review below, I have become more and more aware of how inadequate the first edition was, so inadequate that the second edition could easily be a massive improvement and woefully inadequate at the same time. It took me a long time to decide I needed to buy this book, because the price was so prohibitive. Now I'm not sure it was worth the money. Most of the articles and books listed can be found easily with a simple search in any good library database. Of course, this technology was not very advanced when the book was published, and the recent developments might be part of why no updated and corrected edition of this book has been released. For example, the correspondence index in Chapter 7, while useful to an extent, is riddled with careless and unscholarly errors. The book is worth 3 stars because the organization of pre-2000 Chopin literature is helpful, but in the 21st century, we should strive to make this sort of index-type information available to students online for free. It is not that difficult to do, especially in the context of a format that can be continually updated with little effort and no cost. And yet, anyone who now desires to do so must take copyright into consideration.
